Top races on the ballot

Proposition 1 ("Roads & Transit"): On the ballot in urban areas of King, Snohomish and Pierce counties, calls for sales-tax and car-tab-tax increases to provide 186 miles of road lanes, 50 miles of light rail, park-and-ride stations, and partial funding for a new Highway 520 floating bridge.

State measures:

House Joint Resolution 4204: To allow school-district levies to pass with a simple-majority vote instead of a 60 percent supermajority.

Initiative 960: Tim Eyman measure to require two-thirds vote in the Legislature for tax increases.

Referendum 67: Would ratify a new law allowing consumers to sue for triple damages if an insurance company "unreasonably" denies a legitimate claim.

Local races: Seats on the Seattle School Board and City Council, King County Council, Port of Seattle Commission. Voters also will choose a new Redmond mayor and Snohomish County sheriff.

Voter information

Polls open: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Take ID: You'll need identification to vote at the polls — a driver's license, for example, voter-registration card, student ID card, paycheck, bank statement or utility bill. If you don't have ID, your ballot will be considered a provisional one and elections workers will have to match your signature before your vote is counted.

If you are voting absentee: Ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday.
